Pastel Class dates:
Saturday 28th October
10 am to 4 pm £ 95
Whole day course introducing materials, techniques, painting a “Fat Robin”
Demonstrations of how to photograph & upload to a printer & order your own personalised Christmas Cards.
This course in soft pastels will give you a basic understanding of pastels and how to apply them.
You will learn about paper, painting techniques and complete you first pastel with easy step by step demonstrations.

Pad of A 3 pastel paper in assorted colours ( I use Daler Rowney)
Box of Soft pastels : Inscribe (64) or Sennelier, various sizes available depending on your budget.
Board approx size: 40 by 60 cm and 2 bull clips or scotch tape
Pencil 2B
Putty Rubber
Rubber tipped smudger
Flat Nylon Brushes No: 4 and 6

Pastel 2
Following from your basic introduction we will either explore a topic on your or my suggestion.
You will learn about composition, light, texture and tone.
Pastel 3
We will commence your project.You may draw yourself or learn to use a projector.
You will learn about crosshatching, smudging and layering.
Pastel 4
We will continue your project .
You will learn about frames and display of your work.
On completion of the four week pastel course, you will have a basic understanding of soft pastels, have created four paintings and be confident to begin your own projects.
Watercolour, introduction
Watercolour Class dates :

This course will give you the basic technique of watercolour washes.
You will learn about suitable paper, paints, brushes, granulation and do several colour washes. You will complete a painting using both wet in wet and wet on dry techniques.

A board 40 by 60 cm
Easel tabletop or free standing.( optional as you can paint on a table or desk)

Winsor Newton Squirrel No 4 or similar
Riggers No 2 and 5 or a full range of different size watercolour brushes sold in packs.
Winsor Newton Cotman Watercolour tubes 12 colours £29 or you can get individual tubes (artist quality are more expensive but will give better results)
French ultramarine, Alizarin Crimson
New Gamboge, Burnt Sienna
Raw umber, Lemon yellow
Purple lake, Rose Dore
Neutral tint, Orange
Sepia, Raw Sienna
If you would like to buy this gradually, start with the first 4. You can mix most colours from these.

Watercolour 2
We will draw a project, which we choose together, either by hand or with the aid of photos, projector.
You will learn about composition and light.
Watercolour 3
You will continue last weeks project.
You will be encouraged to choose your own project.
You will learn the use of masking fluid and mixing colours.
Watercolour 4
You will learn techniques of sponging, lifting, scrunching.
On completion of the four week course you will have a basic understanding of watercolour, have created at least four paintings and be confident to do your own work.
